Description
This Aeger fossil from Solnhofen is one of the more common found crustaceans in the Solnhofer Plattenkalk area. That does not mean they are easy to find. Fossils are not found abundant in those Limestones. They are rather scarce.
The crack across the slab is a natural mineralised pressure crack and the slab is not broken or glued.
This Aeger fossil from Solnhofen is 7 cm or 2.75 ” from the tip of the head to the end of the tail.
Slab is 10 cm x 7 cm or 4 x 2,75 inch.
Due to less demand in decorative stones the production of Solnhofen Limestones slowed down since the 1990’s. Many quarries closed down. The final blow came in July 2023, when production seized (for now?). The storages for Solnhofen Limestones are full.
