Description
Nice preserved Hollardops mesocristata and Cyphaspis eberhardiei together on rock slab. The Hollardops is free standing and shows the Hypostome or mouth piece. Compound eyes are intact. There is also a third phacopid Trilobite partially present. Hollardops mesocristata is first described as Asteropyge mesocristata (Le Maitre, 1952), which is the type specimen. The genus Hollardops (Marzadec, 1997) replaced the genus Asteropyge. In literature Hollardops mesocristata from the Upper Emsian is sometimes mistaken for Metacanthina barrandei from the Lower Eifelian. They are two different species based on type species and geological stages they are found in.
Cyphaspis eberhardiei (2006) is based on the type specimen Phacops ceratophtalmus (Goldfuss 1843). Cyphaspis ( Burmeister 1843) replaced the genus Phacops.
The Hollardops mesocristata and Cyphaspis eberhardiei sold here are a bargain for a collector. They present a Trilobite community typical for the Upper Emsian.
The Hollardops measures 7 cm or 2.75″. The Cyphaspis is 3cm or 1.15″ from front to the end of the spine.
