Description
This rare Jurassic Insect Elcana longicornis fossil comes from the famous Solnhofen Limestones in Germany. It is a small Grasshopper from a now extinct family of Locusts. The insects that show up in the Solnhofen Lagune lived on nearby land. Wind or streams must have carried them into the salty Solnhofen Lagoon.
The slab with the fossil on, is about 4 inches or 10 cm long and 3.25 inches or 8 cm wide. It is not prepared. Instead as commonly done by Prepeartors, a primer is applied, to bring structures out. Real preparation would be very costly and is in some cases not economically. The Jurassic Insect Elcana longicornis fossil here measures about 3.5 cm to 4 cm or around 1.5 inches.
