Description
Very large Grammoceras fallaciosum Ammonite fossil from France for sale here. The genus Grammoceras occurs in the Upper Lias in the Upper Toarcian (Lias zeta) of the Lower Jurassic. The related genus Harpoceras is characteristic for the lower Toarcian (Lias epsilon). Grammoceras has like Harpoceras depending on the species relative fine to fine ribs. The ribs have a “S” like swing towards the front of the Ammonite. They both have also a keel on the outside around the housing. In contrast, Grammoceras has a bit wider center than the more narrow centered Harpoceras. It comes from the fact, that the outer windings overlap the inner one different in both species. The outer windings of Harpoceras overlaps more the inner windings. The outer windings of Grammoceras overlap less the inner windings of the Ammonite.
The large Grammoceras fallaciosum Ammonite for sale here is a large specimen. It measures 16 cm or 6.25 inches in diameter.
