Description
Here is a very large Trilobite Asaphiscus wheeleri preserved in a calcite nodule in very good condition. It measures 4,5 cm or 1.75 inches in lenght. They don’t get much larger. The Trilobite Asaphiscus wheeleri is found in the Wheeler Shale in Utah. Asaphiscus wheeleri is more rare than his companion Elrathia kingi. Large specimen like the one here are even rarer. Wheeler Shale occurs around the town of Wheeler in Utah after which it is named. The deposits date to the mid Cambrian period and they are about 507 million years old. Trilobites are preserved in black Calcite and occur in very beautiful condition.
