Description

Well preserved and prepared rare Metascutellum pustulatum Trilobite from Morocco for sale. The Trilobite has characteristic pustules appear all over the body. There are spines on the thorax segments. The neck ring of the cephalon carries one spine. Also each eye shows one spine.

There is one almost invisible initial crack left right through the body and left part of the Pygidium of the Trilobite. These cracks are not avoidable. They speak for the authenticity of the fossil.

In front of the Scutelluid is a small specimen of an Dalmanitid Zlichovaspis still partially burried. Zlichovaspis occurs mainly in the upper Pragian and lower Emsian. It is named after the Zlichov Formation in the Czech Republik, wich is named after the village Zlichov, now Praha Zlichov. The Book “Fossils from Morocco” Patrice Lebrun names Metascutellum sp. as existing in the Kolihapeltis Horizon (Late Pragian, Ihandar Formation) together with Zlichovaspis.

Moroccan Trilobites are mined. Unfortunately in the layers of the hardy Devonian rocks, fossils appear in all directions. Once the rock is broken, the fossil is discovered. Due to the nature of these rocks and the position of the fossil, the fossil is broken too. Experienced Preparators take on the task to glue them back together and to chisel or grind them out. In general cracks and some preparation marks are not avoidable and show that the fossil is real and not faked. There is no damage or replaced parts on this Trilobite.
