Description
The fossil Harpoceras Ammonite is 18 cm or 7 inches in diameter and in preserved in very good quality. Great fossil for a bargain price. There are also Dactylioceras commune and Hildoceras Ammonites present. The clam Pseudomytiloides dubius (Innoceramus dubius) is also present.
The fossil Ammonite Harpoceras falcifer and his companions are also from the Oelschiefer. Oelschiefer is the name for the Posidonia Shale in the area of Holzmaden. It was used to produce oil from it. Since it was not economically, it was not used anymore.
Now the only working quarry in the area is the Kromer quarry in Ohmden next to Holzmaden. A black to grey decorative stone is mined in the lower parts in the quarry. The fossil comes from above those layers.
There is a primer applied to the fossil. This is done in the process of preparation to all fossils from the Holzmaden Shales to make them more stable. A wall hanger is installed in the back of the slab.
Harpoceras falcifer appears in the Lias epsilon 2 (4) Unterer Schiefer and continues up to Lias epsilon 3, Wilder Schiefer.
