Monotypic cluster of the Czech Trilobite Ellipsocephalus hoffi for sale.

Ellipsocephalus is a genus of Trilobites known from Middle and Northern Europe. They are known from Sweden, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Ellipsocephalus hoffi comes from the Jince area in the Czech Republik near Prague. Here the Trilobite is found in the upper part of the Paradoxides gracilis zone and the lower part of the Hydrocephalus lyelli zone of the Middle Cambrian Jince Formation of Jince.

Ellipsocephalus hoffi is sometimes found here in monotypic clusters. It is believed that either the sheddings or the dead Trilobites have been washed together, or that they got buried while they where together  mating.

Here you have another beautiful piece of the Czech Trilobite Ellipsocephalus hoffi for sale. The larger specimen are 2,5 cm or 1 inch long. The slab is 12×9 cm or 4.75×3.5 inches.

This is an older fossil. The location is above a previous Army base from socialist times and then accessible. During the war in Ukraine it became a NATO base and it was forbidden to enter. That one went and just after, very recently (2017/2018)it became integrated in the Brdy mountains protected landscape area. So for now there will be no more new fossils from that site.
