Description
Nice slab with 2 Jurassic Solnhofen fossil Fish Leptolepides sprattiformis. The fossil fish are about 7 to 8.5 cm or 2,75 to 3.3 inches long. The limestone slab is unbroken and measures 30 by 16 cm or 11.8 by 6.25 inches. It is an older fossil. Leptolepides sprattiformis is a very common fossil in the Solnhofen area. Often the fish is shown in pairs. Some believe that the fish died during mating. Experiments showed also that dead fish can assemble in pairs due to water turbolence. Perhaps it might be both since many fish species die after mating and wash up together in large quantitie
