Description
Hildoceras sublevinsoni for sale. Great condition. The Ammonite comes from the the Kromer quarry in Ohmden near Holzmaden. The fossil measures 13,5 cm or 5.3″. The slab measures 29 cm x 27 cm or 11.4″ x 10.6″. Natural Pyrite appears decorative in the lower right corner. In the back of the slab is a wall mount installed.
The fossil comes from the Posidoniashale and is Lias epsilon 3. Posidoniashale is called Oelschiefer in the Holzmaden area, because it was used to produce oil. The production of oil from the shale is uneconomically. It is also considered environment unfriendly. Therefore in Germany Oelschiefer is not used for oil production anymore. This Hildoceras sublevinsoni for sale among other Ammonites are byproducts of valuable stone production. A hard bank directly underneath the Ammonite banks gets quarried. The Ammonites are collected, dried and prepared for the fossil trade.
The last and only producing quarry is the Kromer family quarry in Ohmden near Holzmaden. All fossils from the Holzmaden shale have the primer Capaplex applied. It is done in the preparation process.
