Description

Cephalopod Palaeololigo oblonga rostrum for sale. The fossil comes from the Muehlheim Quarry near Solnhofen in Bavaria, Germany. Since the fossil is very rare I have not much to say. There is nothing to find at the moment.

Speculation: It could be believed, that Paleololigo oblonga is related to Muensterella, scutellaris, a very simular looking Cephalopod. ? Then it would be categorised under the order Octopoda and suborder Teudoseina instead Theuthida.

The Cephalopod Palaeololigo oblonga rostrum here is 8 cm or 3.25 inches for the round patella. With the spiny part included it would be if streched, about 16 cm or 6.3 inches long. The limestone slab is 30 cm by 27 cm or 11.75 inches by 10.6 inches.

However there is one specimen shown in the Solnhofen Fossilienatlas, link below.

For more information you can go to or click here :  https://www.solnhofen-fossilienatlas.de and write the german name for octopus = “Tintenfische” under “Suche”. If you want a english translation it would be better to google Solnhofen Fossilienatls and choose “translate this page” in Google already. There is one Cephalopod Palaeololigo oblonga posted.
