Description
Nice slab with the Jurassic Solnhofen Fish fossil Leptolepides sprattiformis well preserved for sale. Iron – Manganese Dendrites add an decorative touch to the slab and give the impression of Algae.
The fossil fish are about 7.5 cm or 3 inches long. The limestone slab measures 27 x 19 cm or 10.6 x 7.5 inches. It is an older fossil. Leptolepides sprattiformis is a very common fossil in the Solnhofen area.
The slab here comes from the Langenaltheim Hardt very closed to Solnhofen. It is about 1 Kilometer to the west of the town of Solnhofen. Langenaltheim was for centuries a major producer of Solnhofen Limestone. The smaller quarry is closed. The larger quarry produces now on a very small scale almost next to nothing.
