Solnhofen fossil Acanthochirana longipes here for sale. A very well preserved and prepared Jurassic shrimp from the Upper Jurassic Solnhofer Plattenkalk. It can not get much better. The fossil is 10 cm or 4 inch from head to tail. Acanthochirana longipes is one of the more rare occurring Crustaceans of the Solnhofer Plattenkalk. Beeing around Solnhofen a bit, I seen only two outside of museums compared to a hundred Aeger or Anthrimpos. Acanthochirana longipes has the longer filter arms compared to Acanthochirana cordata (medium) and A. angulata (short).  This Solnhofen fossil Acanthochirana longipes fossil comes from a private collector and quarry owner from the area. Also present is the free swimming Crinoid Saccocoma, on top of the shrimp.

Due to less demand in decorative stones the production of Solnhofen Limestones slowed down since the 1990’s. Many quarries closed down. The final blow came in July 2023, when production seized (for now?). The storages for Solnhofen Limestones are full.
