Jurassic Waterstrider Propygolampis ( Chresmoda )

Description

Jurassic Waterstrider Propygolampis ( Chresmoda ) fossil comes from the famous Solnhofen Limestones in Germany. The Insects that show up in the Solnhofen Lagune lived on nearby land. Astray, wind or streams must have carried them into the salty Solnhofen Lagoon, either already dead or to die on exhaustion. The is an appearence of a few Propygolampis finds. That could suggest that they may have lived there. They could also  have mistaken it for sweetwater.

In general all Insects are rare in the Solnhofen Limestones. The majority of Insects found in the Solnhofen Limestones are Dragonflies with many species.

The body of the Jurassic Waterstrider Propygolampis ( Chresmoda ) fossil here is 4 cm or 1.6 inches long. With the legs the Insect spreads over 12 cm or 4.75 inches. The legs are not paintet! They dent out and have starting Manganese Dendrites adding to the color. The same Dendrites can be seen at the mineralised (not glued) crack.

The Jurassic Waterstrider Propygolampis ( Chresmoda ) here has no wings, suggesting it is a male or not fully developed nymph.
