Eodalmanitina macrophtalma from France

Description

Nice affordable Eodalmanitina macrophtalma from France. The right eye has most of the facetts preserved. The left eye has some damage due to water weathering in these rocks. The tail tip is missing. A piece is missing on the end of the right and left side of the cephalon due to a crack. The Trilobite measures 4,5 cm or 1 6/8 inches from the front of the head to the tails end. Still a nice piece.

The Trilobite was first named as Calimene macrophtalma and Dalmanitina macrophtalma by Brongniart in 1822. Eodalmanitina became the name of the genus by Henry in 1964. The species is found in Spain and France.

The fossil is from the  Darrivillien stage of the Middle Ordovician age. Darrivillian is the French term for Llandeilo or Dobrotivian.

France yields plenty of fossils among them plenty of Trilobite species. The fossil friendly policy of the French Government makes it a fossil hunters paradise.
