Description
Nice slab with the Jurassic Fish Leptolepides sprattiformis from the famous Solnhofen Limestones in Bavaria Germany. The fossil is very well preserved . Iron – Manganese Dendrites add an decorative touch to the slab and give the impression of Algae.
The fossil fish is about 7.5 cm or 3 inches long. The limestone slab measures 22 x 19 cm or 8.75 x 7.5 inches. It is an older fossil. The Jurassic Fish Leptolepides sprattiformis is a very common fossil in the Solnhofen area. A layer in the closed by Apfelthal quarries was called the “Fischli Flinz” due to the mass appearances of the small Fishes.
The slab here comes from the Langenaltheim Hardt very closed to Solnhofen. It is about 1 Kilometer to the west of the Town of Solnhofen. There are some large size quarries that produced Solnhofen Limestones. Now the production is down to almost zero.
