Description
A large beautiful Ammonite Phylloceras heterophyllum for sale with a size of 21 cm or 8.25 inch. Also present is Dactylioceras commune on the plate. The bigger Dactylioceras is 7 cm or 2.75 “. The Ammonite Eleganticeras can also been seen. Phylloceras heterophyllum is one of the more rare Ammonites found in the Quarry. The plate comes probably from the Lias epsilon 2 in the upper half of the Kromer family quarry in Ohmden near Holzmaden. The shale they appear in is called Oelschiefer. In other areas it is known as Posidoniashale. Oelschiefer was quarried for oil but it became uneconomical. Now it is also considered unfriendly to the environment. Therefore it is not used for the purpose of oil production anymore. Quarried is now a valuable work stone from one bank in the lower part of the quarry. On all fossils from the Oelschiefer a primer Capaplex is applied.
Phylloceras heterophyllum can be found from the Obere Stein, Lias epsilon 2 (8) up into the Wilde Schiefer Lias epsilon 3.
