Metascutellum pustulatum Trilobite from Morocco

Description

Well preserved and prepared rare Metascutellum pustulatum Trilobite from Morocco for sale. Besides that pustules appear all over the body, there are spines on the thorax segments. The neck ring of the cephalon carries one spine. Also each eye shows one spine.

In front of the Scutelluid a small specimen of an Dalmanitid ( Zlichovaspis) is still partially burried. I make mistakes to, digging through all the rubbel that comes with Trilobites (species, formations, locations). It is hughe and the original information is often vague. I can be wrong with that, but neither Odontochile or Zlichovaspis occur above the Emsian. They are Pragian and Emsian Trilobites. Zlichovaspis occurs mainly in the upper Pragian and lower Emsian. It is named after the Zlichov Formation in the Czech Republik, wich is named after the village Zlichov, now Praha Zlichov. The Book “Fossils from Morocco” Patrice Lebrun names Metascutellum sp. as existing in the Kolihapeltis Horizon (Late Pragian, Ihandar Formation) together with Zlichovaspis. In the index of the classification of the Genera he puts it into the Givetian Stage (mistake?). Some sources on the internet state it is found in the Eifelian of Djebl Oufatene.

Due to the existence of Zlichovaspis it has to be Pragian/ Emsian.

There is one almost invisible initial crack left right through the body and left part of the Pygidium of the Trilobite. These cracks are not avoidable. They speak for the authenticity of the fossil. Moroccan Trilobites are mined. Unfortunately in the layers of the hardy Devonian rocks, fossils appear in all directions. Once the rock is broken, the fossil is discovered. Due to the nature of these rocks and the position of the fossil, the fossil is broken too. Experienced Preparators take on the task to glue them back together and to chisel or grind them out. In general cracks and some preparation marks are not avoidable and show that the fossil is real and not faked. There is no damage or replaced parts on this Trilobite.

The availability of pneumatic and air abrasive tools makes the work of the preparation even more efficient and qualitative upgraded. Features of the eyes, the body markings (pores etc.) and spines can be easier prepared out of the hardy rocks.

Some of the Trilobites processed take up to 100 hours of preparation.  The Trilobite would measure about 1.8 ” or 4.7 cm. Due to the slight down bend of the tail, it is hard to measure.
