Description
Triassic Clam Pecten discites ( now Entolium discites ) in good preservation and with a lot of structure showing. It is a top quality slab. The fossil comes from the lower Wellenkalk, the lowest part of the Muschelkalk of Ruedersdorf near Berlin in Germany. The larger clam on the slab measures 4.2 cm or 1 6/8 inches. The other three are about 3 cm or 1 3/16 inches. The Muschelkalk slab measures 15 cm by 10 cm or 6 inches by 4 inches.
In order to bring the beaty of the fossil out preparation work has been done with acid and polishing.
The clam Myophoria Transversa is also present.
In general most of the clams of Ruedersdorf or the Muschelkalk in many if not all places in Germany don’t have the shell preserved. They are molds (casts), where the shell is disolved and an empty air pocket. However in the lowest layers of the Wellenkalk at Ruedersdorf about 10 meters occur the so called Muschelpflaster which translates into clam pavement. Here the clams on top of the layers have the actual shell preserved. Inside the rock they have shells but it is probably impossible to get them out in a good condition.
