Description
This fossil Jurassic Backswimmer Insect comes from the famous Solnhofen Limestones in Germany. The bug is from the Suborder Heteroptera which represents “True Bugs”. it is therefore related to many of todays water dwelling bugs like the Waterscorpion and the Waterbee, but also further to Bedbugs. These Water Bugs live usually in sweet water. Wind or streams must have carried them into the salty Solnhofen Lagoon. The insect measures 2 cm or 0.8 inches. The slab is about 7 inches or 18 cm long and 6 inches or 15 cm wide. One of the more rare insect fossils of the area.
