Description
Very large Harpoceras pseudoserpentinum Ammonite fossil from France for sale here.
The genus Harpoceras is characteristic for the lower Toarcian (Lias epsilon). Harpoceras has fine to fine ribs. These ribs have a “S” like swing or sichel like swing towards the front of the Ammonite. There is a single keel on the outside around the housing.
The outer windings of the Ammonite overlap the older inner windings.
In contrast to the very similar Harpoceras falciferum from the Toarcian, that shows a more continuous groove through the windings, Harpoceras subserpentinum does not show the continuous groove on the windings or spiral. It appears only at the fifth turn of the spiral.
The large Harpoceras pseudoserpentinum Ammonite for sale here is a large specimen. It measures 16 cm or 6.25 inches in diameter.
There is a great website with Ammonites, that features both species of Harpoceras in the context of the location.
