Walliserops trifurcatus Trilobite for sale from Morocco

Description

Museum quality Walliserops trifurcatus Trilobite for sale. Walliserops is a genus of Trilobite known mainly from Jbel Gara near Foum Zguid. Three described species occur here: Walliserops trifurcatus, Walliserops hammii, Walliserops tridens.  Three new proposed undescribed species known from other locations in Morocco (Jbel Issoumour).

The purpose of the outstanding horns is not clear, although they must be important. Some think they are used to direct food to the mouth. Some think they are used for fighting like antlers.

The fossil is 9 cm or 3.5 inches with the forked front extension measured.

The initial crack runs from the right front to the left tail side.

These cracks are not avoidable because Moroccan Trilobites are mined. Unfortunately in the layers of the hardy Devonian rocks fossils appear in all directions. Once the rock is broken the fossil is discovered. Due to the nature of these rocks and the position of the fossil, the fossil is broken too. Experienced Preparators take on the task to glue them back together and to chisel or grind them out. In general cracks and some preparation marks are not avoidable and show that the fossil is real and not faked.
